Thai Asahi Caustic Soda Co., Ltd. was initially founded in 1964 as a joint venture between a group of Thai entrepreneurs and Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. of Japan. The company was granted promotional privileges by the Board of Investment (BOl). Two years later, the company’s first production plant in Samut Prakan was completed and commercial production of sodium hydroxide commenced. The company underwent a major change in 1988 when Thai Asahi Caustic Soda Co., Ltd. was renamed THASCO Chemical Co., Ltd. (THASCO) and has become to AGC Chemicals (Thailand) Co., Ltd (ACTH), the name the company bears today. 1969-1983 Backed by BOl promotional privileges, the company expanded its factory in order to produce chlor-alkali to meet growing demand from secondary industries. 1985 The company obtained BOl privileges for the production of refined salt. 1989 • The company commenced production of refined salt using environmentally-friendly technology transferred from Europe. 1991 The company tripled its production of refined salt. 1994 • The company relocated its refined salt production plant to Nakhon Ratchasima and formed a new company under a new joint venture with Vinythai Public Company Limited and Thai Refined Salt Co., Ltd. 1996-1997 The Rayong plant commenced production of potassium carbonate. Production of chlor-alkali also came on-stream in 1997. 1998 The plant at Samut Prakan was awarded the ISO 9002: 1994 quality standard, approved by BVQI. 1999 Production of sodium hydroxide micropearls commenced, making the company the first and only producer of sodium hydroxide micropearls in Thailand. 2000 The plant at Rayong achieved the ISO 14001:1996 environmental standard as assessed by BVQI. 2001 Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. of Japan raised its ownership stake to 100 per cent. 2004 The Rayong plant was approved for ISO 9001:2000 quality standard certification by BVQI. 2005 • The Mercury Cells Process for producing caustic soda and chlorine was replaced by an environmentally-friendly Ion-exchange Membrane Process at the Samut Prakan plant. 2006 The Rayong plant underwent an expansion in order to increase production of chlor-alkali. The company has thus maintained its position as the largest producer of sodium hydroxide in Thailand. 2007 THASCO Chemical Co.,Ltd was renamed to AGC Chemicals (Thailand) Co.,Ltd |
